Born in Iowa City, Iowa, Walter Preucil comes from a distinguished family of musicians who have been praised for their performances, both individually and collectively. New York Concert Review Magazine praised Walter’s 2002 New York recital performance as being “beautifully expressive” and having ”color, warmth, and freedom” as well as “great authority and affection.” Walter has been an orchestra member of the Lyric Opera of Chicago since 1988. His solo performances with orchestras have included works by Bloch, Brahms, Dvorak, Haydn, Miakovsky, Milhaud, Tchaikovsky, and a critically acclaimed appearance at the Casals Festival in Prades, France. His teachers have included Janos Starker, Paul Katz, Charles Wendt, and Daniel Morganstern. He is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, where he was awarded a performer’s certificate. Along with his wife Stephanie, a violinist, he has performed in the Classic Arts Trio since 1993.
