Johannes Raab wurde 1985 in Leipzig geboren. Seinen ersten Cellounterricht erhielt er im Alter von sieben Jahren von dem erfolgreichen Pädagogen Edwin Koch in Hamburg.
Mit 15 Jahren wurde er neben der Schule als Jungstudent an der Musikhochschule Lübeck in die Klasse von Prof. Troels Svane aufgenommen. Seit 2004 studiert er an der Musikhochschule „Carl-Maria von Weber“ Dresden, bei Peter Bruns, Prof. Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, bei Konstantin Heidrich (Fauré Klavierquartett) und aktuell bei Friedwart Dittmann. Darüber hinaus vertiefte er seine Studien bei internationalen Meisterkursen wie zum Beispiel bei Bernard Greenhouse, Miklós Perényi, Wolfgang Boettcher, David Geringas, Alban Gerhardt, Peter Bruns, Jens-Peter Maintz, Stephan Forck und Götz Teutsch. Seit 2002 gab er zahlreiche Recitals mit Pianisten wie Thomas Böttger, Mathias Veit oder Prof. Jürgen Schröder (HfM Hans Eisler Berlin). Einblicke in die Aufführungspraxis der Alten Musik erhielt er durch den Unterricht von Prof. John Holloway (Barockgeige) und Prof. Ludger Rémy (Cembalo). Orchestererfahrung sammelt in der Jungen Deutschen Philharmonie als Substitut der Dresdner Philharmoniker. Im Moment ist er Akademist der Staatskapelle Dresden. Also Solocellist spielte er in einigen Häusern, wie dem Folkwang Kammerorchester Essen oder dem Philharmonischen Orchester Altenburg-Gera. Ab 2012 ist er erster Solocellist der Anhaltischen Philharmonie Dessau.
Johannes Raab spielt ein Cello von Carlo Antonio Testore aus dem Jahr 1741.
Johannes Raab was born in 1985 in Leipzig. He recieved his first lessons at the age of seven with Edwin Koch (the fomer Solocellist of the NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg). At the age of 15 he was accepted into the Musik College Lübeck, where he studied with Prof. Troels Svane. From 2004 he studied at the Musik College "Carl Maria von Weber" in Dresden with Prof. Konstantin Heidrich (Fauré Pianoquintett), Prof. Peter Bruns and Prof. Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt and succesfully recieved his Diploma in summer 2010.
He furthered his education bv participating in international masterclasses conducted by people such as Bernard Greenhouse, Miklós Perényi, Wolfgang Boettcher, David Geringas, Alban Gerhardt, Jens-Peter Maintz, Stephan Forck und Götz Teutsch.
Johannes Raab has given numerous recitals with Thomas Böttger, Mathias Veit and Prof. Jürgen Schröder. He has recieved input into the performance practices of baroque music from lessons with Prof. John Holloway (Baroque violin) and Prof. Ludger Rémy (Cembalo). From 2006 until 2010 he was also sunbstitut in the Dresden Philharmonic and also played in the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie.
Since 2009 he is holder of a scholarship from the Orchester Academy of the Staatskapelle Dresden. As principal Cellist he played in a few orchesters such as the Folkwang Chamber Orchester Essen or the Philharmonisches Orchester Altenburg-Gera. From 2012 he is the the Principal Cellist of the Anhaltische Philharmonie Dessau.
