 After extensive study with Richard Aaron, Lee graduated from Curtis Institute as a student of Orlando Cole and Mstislav Rostropovich. He studied with Peter Wiley and William Pleeth. Lee completed his studies with Paul Katz in the Artist Diploma Program at the New England Conservatory.
Daniel Lee was acting principal cellist of the San Diego Symphony for 04–05 season. Subsequently, he won principal cello of the Saint Louis Symphony under David Robertson.
He has won acclaim as soloist with the Baltimore, Kansas City, Cincinnati, New Jersey, New York Chamber, and Seattle symphonies, and the California Symphony, Cleveland, Florida, Seoul Festival, and London’s New Queen’s Hall orchestras.
