Jan-Filip Tupa, born in 1980 into a Czech musician family, studied cello with Claus Reichardt at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf and with Raphael Wallfisch at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London. He has performed as soloist as well as chamber musician in countries throughout Europe, in South America and the Middle East. His special interest lies in contemporary music and the cooperation with composers of his generation. This work has led him to the Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt, one of the world’s finest groups for contemporary music. From October 2006 he is member of the International Ensemble Modern Academy. Jan-Filip’s engagements for the 2006/07 season include the cello concerto „Tout un monde lointain“ by Henri Dutilleux with the Moravian Philharmony in Olomouc (Czech Republic) and the double concerto for cello and violin by Miklós Rózsa with the BM Duna symphony orchestra in Budapest (Hungary).
