David Pia was born in 1982 at Zoug (Switzerland). Within 10 years he won 1st Prize in a young people’s competition. At the age of 13 he passed the entrance examination of the Music Academy in Basel, and studied with the Brazilian cellist Antonio Meneses. David Pia is currently studying in Salzburg with Professor Clemens Hagen, member of the famous Hagen Quartet. Among others, he has participated in master classes given by David Geringas, Bernhard Greenhouse, Janos Starker and Menahem Pressler. In chamber music, he has been taught by professor Gérard Wyss, whom he recorded for the swiss radio „DRS2” in 2002. He is the prize-winner of several competitions: 2003, he won “Second Prize” and the “Best Performance Price” at the “International Adam Competition” at New Zealand. Since 2002, David Pia has been sponsored by the scholarship Kulturprozent“ and has been honoured from the “Basel Orchestral Company”. David Pia played several times with the Basel Symphony and Chamber Orchestra as soloist and has often been invited to play at the Music Festival „young artists in concert“ in Davos (Switzerland). So far, David Pia has played in a number of European cities and been invited to a concert tour trough Brazil in 2003. David Pia is playing an instrument from the brothers Silvestre/Lyon which has been put from a private property at his disposal.
