Ursula Smith is the cellist of the Zehetmair String Quartet.
She has made recordings for ECM with them of Bartok 5th Quartet and Hindemith opus 22, which was awarded a Diapason D'Or for chamber music recording of the year in 2007. In Summer 2011 the quartet will release a new recording for ECM of Beethoven opus 135 and Holligerīs second String Quartet.She has played with the Quartet in Aldeburgh, Salzburg and Cheltenham festivals, around Europe and in Japan and America.
From 1993 to 2002 she was the solo cellist of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. She holds a masters degree in music from Yale University where she was a Fulbright scholar |
