Dutch Cellist Bas Jongen (Tiel, 1992) started playing the cello when he was 5 years old.
He studied with Maarten Mostert in the Young Talent Class at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and others. He was 15 years old when he entered the renowned class of Prof. Valter Dešpalj at the Music Academy in Zagreb where he also received instructions from Krešimir Lazar and Karmen Pečar.
In 2010, Bas will continue his studies at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Prof. Reinhard Latzko.
He participated in various masterclasses with renowned artists such as Ralph Kirshbaum, Anner Bijlsma, Frans Helmerson, Thomas Demenga, Natalia Gutman, Dmitri Ferschtman, Vladimir Perlin, László Mezö and others.
Bas has played in a variety of orchestras, including the Dutch Youth String Orchestra, where he was principal cellist, plus he has a rich experience in chamber music. From 2007-2009, he was a member of the ensemble “Cellomania”, consisting out of 12 cellists, in which he appeared in concerts throughout Europe. At present time, he is the cellist of the Ag-RAM Quartet which was established in Zagreb in 2009.
He won many prizes at various Dutch national music competitions including the First Prize, Audience Prize and the Press Prize at the 2006 Princess Christina Competition in The Hague. His most recent success was in 2009, where he, at the astonishing age of 17, won the Second Prize and the Interclassica Music Management Special Prize at the 16th International Johannes Brahms Competition in Poertschach, Austria.
He gave solo recitals and appeared with orchestras through the Netherlands and in various other countries including Croatia, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, France, Liechtenstein and Germany. He made his debut in 2009 together with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra and Tomislav Fačini with Tchaikovsky's 'Rococo Variations', Op. 33. He has collaborated with several conductors including Mitsugo Hoshino, Martin André, Bas Wiegers, Jussi Jaatinen, Tomislav Fačini, Johannes Leertouwer, Raymond Spons and others.
In addition, he appeared on several television and radio shows including an open-air concert live broadcasted on television and a radio show by the World Broadcasting Radio Company.
He currently plays a cello made by the acclaimed Antonio Pelizon in 1839 made possible by the Dutch National Musical Instruments Foundation.
Cellist Bas Jongen (1992) uit Eijsden, kreeg zijn eerste cellolessen op vijfjarige leeftijd.
Hij studeerde o.a. bij Maarten Mostert in de Jong Talent klas aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Hij was pas 15 jaar oud toen hij toegelaten werd tot de befaamde klas van Prof. Valter Dešpalj aan de ‘Muzička Akademija’ in Zagreb waar hij ook lessen ontving van Krešimir Lazar en Karmen Pečar.
In 2010 zal Bas verder gaan studeren bij Reinhard Latzko in Wenen.
Hij volgde diverse masterclasses bij gerenommeerde artiesten zoals Ralph Kirschbaum, Anner Bijlsma, Frans Helmerson, Natalia Gutman, Dmitri Ferschtman, Vladimir Perlin, László Mezö en anderen.
Bas heeft in meerdere orkesten gespeeld, zoals in het Nederlands Jeugd Strijkorkest (NJSO) waar hij de aanvoerder van de celli was. Hij heeft ook een rijke ervaring in de kamermuziek. Van 2007 tot 2009 speelde hij in het ensemble “Cellomania”, bestaande uit twaalf cellisten, waar hij concerten mee gaf door heel Europa. Momenteel is hij de cellist van het Ag-RAM Quartet, opgericht in Zagreb in 2009.
Bas won meerdere prijzen op diverse nationale muziek concoursen, zoals het Herman Krebbers Concours, de Stichting Jong Muziektalent Nederland en het Prinses Christina Concours, waar hij in 2006 de eerste prijs, de publieksprijs en de persprijs ontving.
Zijn meest recente succes was in 2009 op het 16de internationale Johannes Brahms Concours te Pörtschach, Oostenrijk waar hij als 17-jarige de tweede prijs en de ‘Interclassica Music Management Special Prize’ ontving.
Hij gaf recitals en soleerde met orkest door heel Nederland en in diverse andere landen, zoals o.a. Kroatië, Oostenrijk, Zwitserland, Denemarken, Liechtenstein, Duitsland en Frankrijk. Hij soleerde met orkesten zoals het Zagreb Philharmonisch Orkest, het Karintisch Symfonie Orkest, het Limburgs Symphonie Orkest, het Jeugd Orkest Nederland, het Nederlands Jeugd Strijkorkest, het Nederlands Artsen Orkest “I Medici” en het Universiteitsorkest Maastricht, waar hij samenwerkte met dirigenten zoals Tomislav Fačini, Mitsugo Hoshino, Martin André, Jurjen Hempel, Bas Wiegers, Johannes Leertouwer, Jussi Jaatinen en Raymond Spons.
Hij was ook meerdere malen op radio en televisie te horen en te zien, zoals op radio bij de Wereldomroep en op televisie bij het programma NPS-Arena.
Bas bespeelt momentaan een zeldzame cello van de Italiaanse meester Antonio Pelizon uit 1839, hem ter beschikking gesteld door het Nationaal Muziekinstrumenten Fonds.
