Twenty-year old Bay Area native Alice Ling began her cello studies at the age of nine. She is the recipient of a number of awards on the local, state, and national level, including awards from the Stanford Young Artist Competition, California Music Educators Association Music Festival, and the Palo Alto Philharmonic Competition. She has received the Maestro Award at the Heritage Festival as well as the National School Orchestra Award. Alice has been a state finalist for the Vocal Orchestral Instrumentalists Chamber Music Ensembles (VOCE) competition, and additionally made her debut performing the Elgar Cello Concerto with the California Youth Symphony. She has served as principal cellist with the California Youth Symphony, assistant principal cellist at the 2005 CMEA All-State Orchestra, and principal cellist for the Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra. Alice is also involved in chamber music, having attended the 2003 Music@Menlo Chamber Music Festival, and has received awards for chamber music from the California Association of Professional Music Teachers and VOCE. Former teachers include Sieun Lin, Irene Sharp and Jonathan Koh. Alice is currently studying with Hans Jørgen Jensen at Northwestern University.
