Mindy Park is a 17-year-old senior at William Fremd High School in Palatine, Illinois. She began her cello studies at the age of 7 now studies with Hans Jorgen Jensen of Northwestern University. She is a member of the Music Institute of Chicago's Academy Program and is the principal cellist of the American Academy Chamber Strings. Her previous awards include first place at the 2006-2007 American String Teachers Association (ASTA) National Solo Competition, first prize in the senior divisions of both the 2006 Sejong Cultural Society Music Competition and the 2007 Society of American Musicians Solo Competition, the Overall Senior Division Winner of the 2005 Walgreen's National Concerto Competition, the 2004 Nancy Fuqua Young Artists Memorial Competition, and the 2007 Fremd Concerto Competition. Ms. Park was the recipient of the 2007 Harvey E. Mittenthal Chair Scholarship from the Skokie Valley Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition and is a 2007-2008 finalist of youngARTS in music of the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, and also has been named Illinois regional winner. In addition, she has been selected as a semi-finalist for the 2008 WAMSO Young Artist Competition of the Minnesota Symphony.
Prior to her appearance with the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Mindy Park has appeared as soloist with the Waukegan Symphony Orchestra, the Midwest Young Artists Symphony Orchestra, and the Fremd Symphony Orchestra. Her performances have been featured on Chicago's WFMT 98.7's Introductions series in 2006, and live on ABC7 Chicago News in 2006. In 2007, she was featured soloist on NPR's "From the Top" radio program. As a chamber musician, her string quartet was first place winner of both the Rembrandt Chamber Players Competition in 2006 and the 2007 St. Paul String Quartet Competition.In December of 2006, she was invited to participate in the New York String Orchestra Seminar. She has participated in masterclasses for Matt Haimovitz, and Richard Aaron. As a chamber musician, she has performed in masterclasses for the Ying Quartet, Pacifica Quartet, Vermeer Quartet, and Avalon Quartet. Ms. Park has attended the Meadowmount School of Music for three summers. |
