Eric Reed is Principal Cellist of the CSO (Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra) and Cellist of the CSO String Quintet. He is a native of Atlanta and began performing with the CSO Orchestra in 1976. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Houston and his Master of Music degree from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He has performed with the Texas Opera Theatre, the Texas Chamber Orchestra, the Houston Grand Opera, and the Atlanta Ballet and Lyric Opera. He was one of twelve cellists worldwide selected for the Piatigorsky Seminar in 1985. He has also participated in master classes with Lynn Harrell, Bernard Greenhouse, Stephen Kates, Nathaniel Rose, Raya Garbusova, Leonard Rose, Zara Nelsova, Laurence Lesser, and David Wells. His principal teachers were Hans Jensen, David Tomatz, Martha Gershefski, James Stroud, and Ronald Feldman.
