At the age of 23 Julia Morneweg has already established a remarkably versatile musical career that sees her perform both in the UK as well as internationally alongside many distinguished colleagues, with her own highly successful ensemble as well as with leading orchestras. She recently graduated with honours from London's Royal College of Music where she studied cello with Leonid Gorokhov, piano with Kathron Sturrock and chamber music with John Barstow and the Chilingirian Quartet. Her previous teachers include Raphael Wallfisch, Klaus Heitz and her father with whom she started learning the cello at the age of 12. Julia has performed in many international masterclasses and received guidance from distinguished musicians such as Alexander Ivashkin, Bernard Greenhouse, Lluis Claret, Alexander Baillie and Christiane Edinger.

The recipient of an EMI Music Foundation Award, she has given many solo performances around Germany, the UK, Belgium, Italy and the United States where she was invited to perform at the 2001 Tacoma International Music Festival. In 2003 she participated in a concert tour throughout Italy as a member of the Israel Soloists Ensemble where she collaborated with world famous artists such as Shlomo Mintz and Massimo Quarta. The series of concerts included the opening concert of the Emiglia Romagna Festival. With the same ensemble she also performed as a concerto soloist in Cologne. A passionate chamber musician, Julia has performed a wide variety of repertoire in different formations and currently pursues a busy concert schedule with her Erato Piano Trio which she founded in 2005. Since winning the Anglo - Czechoslovak Trust Music Competition in 2006 the ensemble has quickly developed a reputation as one of the UK's most exiting young groups, performing recitals throughout the country as well as in major European concert halls. In May 2007 they gave their much acclaimed debut at Zurich's Tonhalle performing Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time with clarinettist Joan Enric Lluna. Most recently they have been selected onto the Concordia Foundation Young Artist Scheme for 2008.

Julia's concerto engagements have included appearances in London and the Ukraine as well as her debut at St. John's Smith Square playing the Elgar Cello Concerto. As a recitalist she performed in many prestigious venues such as Holywell Music Rooms Oxford, the National Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Other engagements included tours to Croatia and Italy with members of the highly acclaimed chamber ensemble Fibonacci Sequence and performances and education work in Singapore. The past season saw her return to St. John's Smith Square to perform Haydn's C major Cello Concerto with the International Mahler Orchestra, numerous performances with the Erato Piano Trio as well as an invitation by renowned flautist Susan Milan to appear in the opening recital of the Charterhouse Music Festival, which also awarded her a full scholarship to attend the masterclass of Alexander Boyarsky. Julia is also much in demand as a freelance orchestral player, having worked with distinguished orchestras such the Orchestra della Scala Milan and the Northern Sinfonia.

Besides enjoying all aspects of her performing career, Julia is a highly committed teacher. Heavily involved in outreach work, she has led workshops at the RCM Summer School, a number of major schools in London as well as in Singapore. In addition to her work as a performer and teacher Julia also pursues a keen interest in musicology and is currently publishing a dissertation on Alfred Schnittke's Piano Trio which she presented to great acclaim at a major Schnittke convention at Goldsmiths College University of London in February 2006.
