Svetlana started to play cello at the age of five and the following year joined a specialist music school in Voronezh, Russia. At the age of eight Svetlana took part in national and international competitions winning prizes along the way. At 11 she made her debut with Voronezh Symphony Orchestra followed by performance of Saint-Sans Cello Concerto in Town Hall two years later.

In 2001 Svetlana won a full scholarship to study at The Purcell School under Natalia Puvlytskaya. As a result of winning a Middle School Concerto competition in 2002 Svetlana performed Elgar Cello Concerto with Purcell Symphony Orchestra. At the age of 15 she gave two performances of Tchaikovsky Rococo Variations with V.S.O conducted by Alexander Ivashkin, and due to its success Svetlana was invited to do a tour of Spain where she gave 16 concerts. The following year Svetlana had a masterclass with Mstislav Rostropovich in Voronezh, which was broadcast on the radio and TV in Russia. In the same year Purcell School nominated her to take part in Manchester Cello Festival where she played for Heinrich Schiff.

At seventeen Svetlana performed Dvorak Cello Concerto with Voronezh Youth Orchestra. Svetlana participated several times in London masterclasses, where she received lessons from Ralph Kirshbaum.

In 2006 Svetlana was offered a place and full scholarship to study at Royal Northern Collage of Music studying under Hannah Roberts. In 2008 Svetlana won RNCM concerto auditions which gave her an opportunity to play Shostakovich Cello Concerto No.1 with the RNCM orchestra in the following academic year.
