Nick Trygstad began cello lessons at age four, and in his teens won many competitions in his native Minnesota. In 1998 he enrolled at the Royal Northern College of Music, where he studied with Ralph Kirshbaum and Hannah Roberts. Active both as soloist and chamber musician, he has received many awards through the RNCM. In 2002 he won the Bronze Medal in the London Symphony Orchestra scholarship competition, performing the Schumann Concerto with the LSO. Last year Nick received awards in the Haverhill Sinfonia Soloist Competition, the Pierre Fournier Award, and the Yamaha Music Foundation Scholarship Competition, the silver medal from the Worshipful Company of Musicians, and the Gold Medal from the RNCM, the institution's highest honour.
Having previously been principal cello with Scottish Opera he has been prrincipal cello of the Halle Orchestra since 2005. Nick is also on the faculty at the RNCM. |
