Professor at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. Cellist with the Bergonzi String Quartet and a regular recitalist and lecturer around the United States.

Harbaugh won the Naumburg Chamber Music Prize and a Prix du Disque with the New World Quartet, and has performed in Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, and London's Wigmore Hall. He has appeared as soloist with many orchestras, including the Atlanta, Cincinnati, Washington and Canadian Chamber Orchestras. Harbaugh was principal cellist of the Grand Rapids and Toledo Symphonies, artist in residence at Harvard University, and author of numerous articles on chamber music. He has recorded for VOX, CRI, Musical Heritage, MCA Classics, Centaur, Fleur de Son, and IMP Masters. He teaches at the Sawtooth Cello Festival and Pine Mountain Music festivals during the summer, and presents workshops entitled “Tai Chi For Cellists” which explore balance, natural movement and momentum in string playing.

He studied with Janos Starker, Leonard Rose, Peter Howard, and Andre Navarra. He earned B.A. and B.M. degrees from Bowling Green University, with post graduate studies at Indiana University and Paris Conservatory. He studied chamber music with Robert Mann of the Juilliard Quartet and Eugene Lehner in Boston.
