Marianne CHEN was born in Chicago, began studying cello at the Juilliard Pre-College under the guidance of Toby Saks, Michael Rudiakov, Channing Robbins and Jerome Carrington,she continued her studies at the Juilliard School under the leadership of Lorne Munroe , obtaining her bachelor's degree and also receiving the Prize "Mu Phi Epsilon."
she furthered her studies under Maestro Antonio Janigro at the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart and the Mozarteum in Salzburg. For years she studied Chamber music with Robert Mann (Juilliard Quartet), with Alexander and Mischa Schneider (Budapest Quartet), and Felix Galimir,She also stuided at the Chigiana Academy of Siena, where she obtained the Diploma of Merit.
Marianne Chen has performed in major concert halls and festivals in the United States, Europe and Asia
she has recorded for Dynamic,Tactus and the New Age, and for the RAI and other networks, including premiere performances in contemporary music.
Marianne regularly holds master classes in Europe and the United States. Many of her students have won prizes in national and international competitions.
She was guest professor of cello at Garden State Music Festival - New Jersey, Guest Professor at the Gustav Mahler Academy in Bolzano, School of Music in Fiesole, Juilliard School and in Greece. She has also been invited to assist Natalia Gutman.
Marianne is often invited to be part of juries,such as VIttorio Gui.Premio Trio di Trieste, and the Arturo Toscanini International Competition for Conductors.
