KATALIN VON WALTERSKIRCHEN was born in Switzerland where she had her first cello lessons. When she was fifteen she moved to Chicago and graduated from New Trier High School with special honors due to her achievements in music. She studied the Cello with Marc Johnson. During the summers she was part of the Hans Jorgen Jensen Studio, professor at Meadowmount School of Music. She performed as principal Cellist with the American Chamber Strings as well as with the Midwest Young Artists. Katalin was invited to play in Master Classes with Janos Starker, Rirchard Aaron and Aldo Parisot. Since 2005 she plays chamber music with different young musicians around the Chicago Land area and also performed as a guest at Boston University.
Katalin has won prices and honors in competitions in Switzerland as well as the US as a soloist and chamber musician. She played as a soloist with different youth orchestras in both the US and Switzerland. Such orchestras in the US include the Midwest Young Artists and the New Trier High School Symphony Orchestra.
After attending a Masterclass at the Carl Flesch Akademie in Baden Baden (Germany) in Summer 2008, being then an Undergraduate student at CCPA of Roosevelt University, Katalin was invited to study privately with Prof. Wolfgang Boettcher. (former principal cellist of the Berlin Philharmonic and Pofessor at the Hochschule der Kuenste Berlin) The following fall she took lessons with her former teacher Prof. Susanne Basler (Hochschule der Kuenste Zuerich) in Switzerland. Reentering school in January 2010 she will complete her Bachelorís Degree in Cello Performance at CCPA with the guidance of Richard Hirschl.
Katalin is overall a very creative and passionate person who likes to be in the outdoors or enjoys a deep conversation on just about anything. Some other hobbies of her include horseback riding, crafting things, cooking, and snow sports.
