The undisputed founder of the French school of cello playing. He was a most important influence, not only for his own performances, but for his pupils, woh were to become some of the most famous figures of the late eighteenth century: Jean Pierre Duport, Jean Baptiste Cupis, Titière and Jean Babptiste Aimée Joseph Janson. They all inherited his poweful but sweet tone and imparted this quality to their pupils in turn.
